DATIN YVONNE RAJ is a Partner in the firm. She has been in active legal practice in Malaysia since 1991, and in Australia since 2005. She practices in the areas of Civil Litigation, Conveyancing, Family Law, Adoptions, Estate Planning and Migration. She also does counsel work in the Court of Appeal and Federal Court of Malaysia mainly in family, corporate and land matters. Datin Yvonne also heads our associate office in the Melbourne CBD.

In 1990, she was awarded her LLB with Honours from the University of London and admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 1991. She then obtained her Masters in International Business Law with Distinction from Staffordshire University, UK in 2000 and in 2004, obtained a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Western Australia. She was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court in Western Australia in 2005 and in 2016, was also admitted to the rolls of the Supreme Court of Victoria. Datin Yvonne divides her time between her practices in Malaysia and in Australia, where she concentrates on Family Law, Mediation and Migration, and assisting Malaysian clients having business and family interests in Australia.

Datin Yvonne has served as a member of the Bar Council’s Family Law Committee and on the Committee on Law & Policy (National Steering Committee on Violence Against Women) in the Ministry of Women and Family Development, and continues to provide training to junior lawyers on Family Law and the Domestic Violence Act at the Legal Aid Centre as well as pro bono legal services and empowerment coaching.

She has been invited to speak at public forums and in-house training programmes on various issues such as Domestic Violence, Financial and Business Skills Seminars, Trade in Malaysia, Enhancing Client Satisfaction, Business Agreements & Debt Recovery and many other areas by organisations such as the Japanese Chamber of Industry and Commerce, St Catherine’s College at the University of Western Australia, Women’s Aid Organization (WAO), All Women’s Action Society of Malaysia (AWAM), Grace Community Services and Calvary Convention Centre.

Datin Yvonne has been actively involved in many charitable works throughout her legal career in Malaysia and Australia and has assisted not-for-profit organisations in their legal compliance issues and to obtain charitable tax exempt status. In 2014, she co-founded a charity to address issues facing the poor, destitute and homeless in Malaysia and this work has now expanded to help the homeless in the Melbourne CBD.

Datin Yvonne is also a qualified Arbitrator and has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in UK and Malaysia since 1998.
